How FMJ Auctions Works

A complete guide for buyers and sellers on the 2A online auction marketplace

FMJauctions.com is a Second Amendment (2A) online auction platform built specifically for the firearms industry. It connects small manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers in a single marketplace where firearms, ammunition, components, and related gear can be bought and sold through transparent, timed bidding.

Whether you are looking to liquidate excess inventory, move overstock ammunition, or simply find competitively priced gear, FMJauctions provides the structure, payment options, and shipping framework to make each transaction predictable and secure. This guide walks through everything both sides of a transaction need to know, including registration and eligibility, bidding mechanics, commissions, payment timelines, and the protections built into the platform.

For Sellers

Eligibility and Registration

Selling on FMJauctions is reserved for licensed members of the firearms trade. Because the platform deals directly in regulated products, every seller must meet federal licensing requirements before listing a single lot.

  • Federal Firearms License (FFL) required. To sell on FMJauctions.com you must hold a valid FFL and complete registration as a verified seller. This keeps every transaction within the bounds of federal law and ensures lots are moving between properly licensed parties.
  • Verified seller status. Registration includes a verification step. Once approved, you gain access to the listing tools and can begin creating auctions.

How Sellers Get Paid

Sellers can receive their proceeds through any of the following methods:

  • Cryptocurrency, paid to a linked wallet
  • ACH transfer, paid to linked bank account

Note: The payment methods available to buyers (credit card, ACH, and crypto) are separate from how sellers are paid. Transaction fees apply to credit card and ACH payments made by buyers, but the seller can choose a payout method independently.

Commission Structure

FMJauctions earns its revenue through a commission on each completed sale. Commission rates depend on the category of goods and, for ammunition and components, on the total sale value, with larger ammunition sales rewarded by progressively lower rates.

CategorySale ValueCommission Rate
Guns & GearAll sale values7% (flat)
Ammunition & Components$0 to $10,0007%
Ammunition & Components$10,000 to $20,0005.5%
Ammunition & Components$20,000 and above4%

Guns and gear carry a simple flat 7% commission regardless of sale value. Ammunition and components use a tiered structure, so sellers moving large volumes keep a larger share of every dollar as their totals climb.

Creating an Auction

FMJauctions offers timed Online Auctions and fixed-price Buy Now listings.

Online Auctions. These are the everyday, self-paced listings. A seller chooses how long the auction should run, selecting from durations of 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, or 14 days. The lot stays open for bidding across that window and closes automatically at the end.

Buy Now Listings. A Buy Now listing carries a fixed price, so a buyer can purchase the lot outright immediately rather than waiting for an auction to close. This gives sellers a fast, straightforward way to move inventory at a set price, and it gives buyers the certainty of securing exactly what they want without competing in a bidding war. Buy Now purchases follow the same payment, shipping, and verification rules as auction lots.

Shipping Responsibilities

On FMJauctions, the buyer arranges and pays for shipping after winning or purchasing a lot. The seller is responsible for having the goods ready and releasing them once the buyer's shipping documentation is in place. Importantly, the seller is not responsible for shipping damage. Risk transfers once the lot is on the truck (see the buyer's verification section for how damage claims are handled).

The Seller Payout Timeline

Funds are released to the seller in two stages, tied to clear milestones in the fulfillment process. This split protects both parties: the seller receives the bulk of the money as soon as goods are genuinely in transit, while a final portion is held until the buyer has had a chance to confirm the shipment arrived as described.

MilestoneFunds Released to Seller
Lot ships and is loaded on the truck (Bill of Lading / labels uploaded)70% of net proceeds after commission
Buyer verifies the shipment, OR the 72 hour verification window expiresRemaining 30% of net proceeds

In short, once the lot is shipped and loaded on the truck, 70% of the net proceeds (after commission) is released to the seller. The remaining 30% is released once the buyer verifies the shipment, or automatically if the buyer does not act within the 72 hour verification window. A seller therefore never has the final payment held indefinitely by an unresponsive buyer.

For Buyers

Registration and Card on File

Buyers register with a credit card on file before bidding. To confirm the card is valid, FMJauctions places a temporary $10 hold that is released immediately. It is an authorization check, not a charge. With a verified card on file, a buyer is cleared to bid.

Payment Methods for Buyers

Once registered, buyers can pay using any of the following:

  • Credit card, fees may apply
  • ACH bank transfer, fees may apply
  • Wire transfer
  • Cryptocurrency, by linking a wallet

Transaction fees apply specifically to credit card and ACH payments. Buyers who prefer to avoid those fees can choose wire or cryptocurrency instead.

Buying Outright with Buy Now

Not every purchase has to go through bidding. When a seller lists an item as a Buy Now, buyers can purchase it instantly at the listed price and skip the auction process entirely. This is ideal when you want to lock in a specific item without the risk of being outbid. Buy Now purchases are subject to the same 48 hour payment rule, shipping arrangements, and 72 hour verification window as items won at auction.

Understanding Bid Increments

Bidding moves in fixed steps so that every advance is meaningful and the auction stays orderly. The size of each step depends on what is being sold and the current price level.

Ammunition and components. All ammunition and component lots open at just $0.01 and advance in half cent increments, allowing very fine, competitive bidding on these high volume goods.

All other items. For everything else, the seller sets the opening price (a $1 starting point is recommended). From there, bids advance according to the following schedule, which scales the increment up as the price climbs:

Current Bid PriceBid Increment
$5 to $100$1
$100 to $249$5
$250 to $499$10
$500 to $999$25
$1,000 to $2,499$50
$2,500 to $4,999$100
$5,000 to $9,999$250
$10,000 to $24,999$500
$25,000 and above$1,000

Winning, Paying, and the 48 Hour Rule

Winning a lot is a binding commitment. The platform enforces a tight set of deadlines to keep transactions moving and to protect sellers from buyers who fail to follow through.

  • Pay within 48 hours. Once you win an auction lot, payment is due within 48 hours of the purchase.
  • Arrange shipping and upload documents. After paying, the buyer organizes shipping and uploads either a Bill of Lading or shipping labels so the items can be released and shipped.
  • Seven day shipping window. After the buyer uploads the unsigned Bill of Lading, the seller must sign, ship, and upload the signed BOL within 7 days.
  • Seller Confirms Shipment. Seller must print the Bill of Lading and have both the seller and shipper sign. Signed Bill of Lading must then be uploaded to the lot for the first 70% of funds to be released.

Verifying Your Shipment

Buyer protection is built into the final step of every transaction. Once the items are received, the buyer has 72 hours to inspect the shipment and confirm it is good.

  • Verify to close the deal. Confirming the shipment within the 72 hour window releases the final 30% of funds to the seller and closes the transaction cleanly.
  • Automatic release. If the buyer does not verify within 72 hours, the final 30% is released to the seller automatically, so do inspect promptly if there is an issue to raise.
  • Shipping damage. The seller is not responsible for damage that occurs during shipping. Because the buyer arranges the carrier, damage claims are a matter between the buyer and the shipping provider, which is another reason to inspect deliveries right away.

Consequences of Not Paying

Because a winning bid is a commitment, FMJauctions penalizes non-payment to keep the marketplace fair for sellers and serious buyers alike.

  • $250 automatic fee. A buyer who does not pay for a won lot is automatically charged a $250 fee to the credit card on file.
  • Bans for repeat offenders. A pattern of non-payment results in being banned from the site.

Transaction Timeline at a Glance

From the fall of the hammer to final payout, here is the full sequence both parties can expect:

  1. Auction closes or Buy Now is purchased. The highest bidder wins the lot, or a buyer purchases it outright.
  2. Buyer pays within 48 hours. Payment is made via card, ACH, or crypto.
  3. Buyer arranges shipping. The buyer books the carrier and uploads the unsigned Bill of Lading — this starts parallel 7-day clocks for seller shipment and buyer pickup coordination.
  4. Seller ships within 7 days of unsigned BOL. Once loaded on the truck, the seller uploads the signed BOL; 70% of net proceeds is released to the seller.
  5. Buyer receives and inspects. A 72 hour verification window opens.
  6. Final payout. On verification, or automatically after 72 hours, the remaining 30% is released to the seller.
